Galaxy Grove - Station to Station
UI Artist - Illustrations & Visual Design
Station to Station is a minimalist & relaxing game about building railway connections developed by Galaxy Grove and published by Prismatika.
As the main UI artist on this project, I loved working on creating a visual language for the user interface that not only would compliment the amazing voxel-art worlds, but have it's own uniqueness in treatment and visual storytelling.
The process
It was clear from the start that this game is all about nostalgia and craftsmanship so creating a visual style that felt handmade, tangible and cozy felt like the way to go.
I'm a sucker for textures and analog work, so I started scanning different types of papers, hand drawing elements, I then colored them digitally while playing with layer effects in photoshop to create a very warm and unique style that complemented the beautiful 3D environments perfectly.
Inventory items - Resources
I had a lot of fun illustrating all the resources in game, from the start I wanted them to feel as if they were also small props telling their own story. Here are some of the early sketches, exploring different representations and readability plus the final line up.
Biomes
Each level showcases it's own unique ecosystem and architecture. We needed a HUD element that illustrated these traits and communicated to the player which level they were playing or unlocking. Once again, I enjoyed working on these so much, the art of the game made it so easy to pick and choose which elements to illustrate.
Impresssions of more UI elements, screens & animations
I can write pages on how this project went, how fun it was to work on it - plus working along side such talented and creative team, but I'll keep it to this and add some mockups, impressions and the cutest train animation (that was a bit harder than it looks to animate).
I hope you enjoy my work and get to play Station to Station!
